COME WORK WITH US
ARTS 14C is growing. We’re looking for two curious, capable people to join our team in Jersey City this December. Both positions include a private studio apartment on the ARTS 14C campus plus a $2,400 monthly stipend.
Communications Coordinator
Jersey City, NJ
Private studio apartment + $2,400/month
Applications due October 26 · Start date December 1
ARTS 14C is seeking an excellent writer and highly organized Communications Coordinator to manage the steady flow of communications connecting our programs with artists, audiences, partners, press, and the wider arts community.
ARTS 14C produces exhibitions, performances, artist residencies, festivals, public programs, and special projects — often with several things happening at once.
That means we have a lot to communicate.
We’re looking for someone who can take information coming from across the organization and turn it into clear, engaging, timely communications — and then make sure those communications actually get where they need to go.
This is a hands-on writing, editing, coordination, and distribution position, with a particular focus on email, press, listings, and public outreach. It is not primarily a social media role.
The Role
A major part of the position is email. The Communications Coordinator will produce our weekly internal email and multiple external emails each week promoting exhibitions, performances, artist opportunities, residencies, events, announcements, and other ARTS 14C activities.
The Coordinator will also manage press releases and media alerts, event and opportunity listings, and the organization-wide communications calendar.
Working closely with the CEO and program staff, you’ll determine what needs to be communicated, gather the information and assets, write and edit the material, schedule its release, and follow through on distribution.
The challenge — and the fun — of the position is that there is rarely just one thing happening. You might be promoting an exhibition while announcing an artist opportunity, preparing a press release for an upcoming project, and gathering information for next week’s emails.
We need someone who enjoys making sense of all of that.
Responsibilities
Email Communications
- Produce and distribute ARTS 14C’s weekly internal email, gathering updates from across the organization and presenting them clearly and usefully.
- Write, build, schedule, and distribute multiple external email communications each week.
- Coordinate communications around exhibitions, performances, residencies, open calls, artist opportunities, fundraising, events, and special projects.
- Maintain ARTS 14C’s email lists and help us communicate effectively with different audiences.
- Track email performance and use what we learn to improve future communications.
- Proofread and fact-check communications before publication.
Press & Publicity
- Write and distribute press releases, media alerts, announcements, and other press materials.
- Maintain and develop press contacts, researching journalists, publications, arts writers, and other media appropriate to individual programs and stories.
- Coordinate press images, information, interview requests, and other materials.
- Help identify programs and stories that warrant targeted media outreach.
Listings & Outreach
- Maintain a calendar of relevant arts, culture, residency, opportunity, and event-listing platforms.
- Submit ARTS 14C programs, events, residencies, open calls, and other opportunities to appropriate websites, calendars, newsletters, and listings.
- Keep information accurate and current across outside platforms.
- Identify new places and partners that can help ARTS 14C reach artists and audiences.
Communications Coordination
- Maintain an organization-wide communications calendar across multiple simultaneous programs.
- Gather dates, links, images, credits, copy, and other information from program staff and collaborators.
- Coordinate with designers, photographers, program staff, and outside partners as needed.
- Maintain an organized archive of communications materials, images, press coverage, and related assets.
- Help ensure that ARTS 14C’s language, program information, and organizational descriptions remain accurate and consistent across platforms.
- Keep communications moving when information is incomplete, deadlines are approaching, or priorities change.
Social Media
Day-to-day social media posting is not part of this position.
The Communications Coordinator will work with the person or team responsible for ARTS 14C’s social media to make sure our communications are aligned across channels. That includes sharing copy, schedules, images, links, and other materials and providing editorial oversight so that social communications accurately reflect ARTS 14C’s programs and priorities.
Who We’re Looking For
This position will be a particularly good fit for someone who loves both writing and organizing.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Writes clearly, accurately, and engagingly.
- Is an excellent editor and proofreader.
- Is unusually organized and good at managing deadlines.
- Can keep track of many programs and communications at once.
- Understands that successful communications depend as much on consistency and follow-through as creativity.
- Can take information from several people and turn it into polished public-facing copy.
- Is comfortable asking people for the information and materials needed to meet a deadline.
- Has good judgment about what different audiences need to know.
- Is comfortable with digital tools and quick to learn new ones.
- Is curious about contemporary art and culture and interested in learning about the artists and programs ARTS 14C supports.
- Can adapt when priorities shift and the day doesn’t unfold according to plan.
- Enjoys working collaboratively and takes responsibility for getting things done.
Experience in arts communications, journalism, publishing, nonprofit communications, public relations, or a related field is useful, but we are also open to candidates whose experience comes from elsewhere.
What matters most is strong writing, exceptional organization, attention to detail, judgment, and follow-through.
Compensation & Housing
The compensation package for this position is:
- $2,400 monthly stipend
- Private 613-square-foot studio apartment within the ARTS 14C campus, provided at no cost
- Utilities and WiFi included
- Furniture provided if needed
- Pets allowed
Housing is an integral part of the compensation package. ARTS 14C is not able to substitute additional salary for the apartment if the selected candidate chooses not to live there.
We hope the arrangement makes this an especially interesting opportunity for an artist, writer, curator, arts worker, or other creative person who would benefit from having their own space while becoming part of an arts community in the New York/New Jersey area.
You do not need to be a practicing artist to apply.
How to Apply
Applications are due October 26, 2026.
Applicants will complete a short online application and submit:
- A résumé or CV.
- Two writing samples demonstrating an ability to communicate clearly to a public audience.
- A short response about why this particular position interests you.
- A short response about how you approach competing priorities and deadlines.
We are much more interested in seeing how you write, think, and organize than receiving a conventional cover letter.
We’ll review applications after the deadline and invite finalists to interview in early November. We will respond to everyone who applies, whether or not they are selected for an interview.
We anticipate making a decision in November, with a start date on or around December 1, 2026.
Finalists should be prepared to provide references prior to the scheduled interview.

Creative Leadership Associate
Jersey City, NJ
Private studio apartment + $2,400/month
Applications due October 26 · Start date December 1
ARTS 14C is looking for an exceptionally organized, curious, and resourceful person to work directly with our CEO and help move ideas, projects, relationships, and the organization itself forward.
This is not simply an administrative assistant position.
There is real administrative work involved—calendars, emails, scheduling, meeting preparation, notes, follow-up, and keeping track of details. Doing those things exceptionally well is an important part of the job.
But the larger opportunity is to work alongside a creative leader running an ambitious arts organization and see firsthand how ideas become programs, partnerships, exhibitions, events, organizations, and public projects.
You’ll be close to the work: participating in meetings, researching new ideas and opportunities, communicating with artists and partners, preparing materials, helping projects move forward, and seeing the behind-the-scenes decisions and problem-solving involved in building a creative organization.
We are looking for someone who wants that exposure—and who understands that the opportunity to participate in interesting work comes with responsibility for making sure the everyday work gets done extremely well.
The Role
You’ll work directly with ARTS 14C CEO Robinson Holloway across a wide range of activities.
Some days will be administrative. Others may involve researching a potential partner, preparing for an important meeting, helping shape a presentation, talking with an artist, figuring out the logistics of a new project, attending a site visit, following up with a funder or community partner, or helping turn an idea discussed that morning into something actionable by afternoon.
No two days will look exactly alike.
Work Directly with the CEO
- Help manage the CEO’s calendar, priorities, meetings, and commitments.
- Prepare briefing materials and background information for meetings.
- Take notes, identify next steps, and make sure commitments are followed through.
- Help manage incoming requests, correspondence, and information.
- Anticipate what will be needed and help keep important things from falling through the cracks.
Help Move Ideas Into Action
- Research artists, organizations, funders, partners, opportunities, locations, programs, and ideas.
- Help develop new initiatives from early conversations into concrete plans.
- Prepare summaries, proposals, presentations, schedules, and action plans.
- Coordinate with staff, artists, vendors, government agencies, cultural organizations, sponsors, donors, and community partners.
- Follow up with people, track next steps, and help keep projects moving.
- Help solve problems when a project gets stuck or circumstances change.
Learn How a Creative Organization Works
Working closely with the CEO will provide exposure to many aspects of running and growing an arts organization, including:
- Program development and creative decision-making.
- Partnerships and relationship-building.
- Fundraising, sponsorship, and donor relationships.
- Exhibitions, performances, residencies, festivals, and public programs.
- Large-scale public art and special projects.
- Budgets, timelines, contracts, and logistics.
- Communications, organizational growth, risk, and decision-making.
This is not a classroom, and there is no formal curriculum. The learning comes from proximity, participation, responsibility, and doing the work.
Keep Things Organized
- Maintain calendars, files, contacts, project information, and other organizational systems.
- Track deadlines, priorities, decisions, and next steps.
- Develop simple systems that make information easier to find and work easier to manage.
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and good judgment.
Pitch In
ARTS 14C is a small organization doing ambitious things, and our best work happens when people collaborate across projects and programs.
From time to time, you might help prepare for an opening, welcome an artist or guest, proofread something before it goes out, help with a presentation, attend an event or site visit, or jump in when an unexpected opportunity or challenge comes up.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team, is willing to lend a hand when it matters, and sees the variety of the work as part of what makes the position interesting.
Who We’re Looking For
There is no single résumé that qualifies someone for this position.
You might be an artist, writer, curator, producer, recent graduate, arts administrator, entrepreneur, researcher, or someone coming from an entirely different field.
We care more about how you think and work than about having followed a particular career path.
You may be a good fit if you:
- Are extremely organized and dependable.
- Are intellectually curious and like learning about things you don’t already know.
- Write and communicate clearly.
- Have excellent judgment and discretion.
- Follow through without needing to be repeatedly reminded.
- Are comfortable having many different things happening at once.
- Can move between big-picture ideas and very small details.
- Know when to ask a question and when to figure something out yourself.
- Are comfortable communicating with people from very different backgrounds and levels of seniority.
- Like solving problems.
- Are willing to take responsibility when something needs to get done.
- Are technologically comfortable and quick to learn new tools.
- Are interested in art, culture, cities, people, and ideas.
- Are energized by a working environment where priorities can change quickly and no two days look quite the same.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is eager to learn and useful to have in the room.
