SAHAR ALIZADEH - Jersey City

Sahar Alizadeh, born in June 1995 in Tehran, Iran (based in New York & New Jersey), is an accomplished artist known for her unique focus on shadows as a primary subject in her work. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture in Tehran, Iran. Alizadeh’s work explores the two-dimensional and monochromatic nature of shadows, juxtaposing them with the vibrant three-dimensional world they represent. Her art delves into themes of perception, reality, and the subconscious, often creating surrealistic spaces where the line between object and shadow blurs.

She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the globe, including in Iran, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Italy, and the United Kingdom. In 2025, she participated in the group exhibition “Between the Inspiration and Collecting” at the Bronx River Art Center, Bronx, New York. Notably, her work was included in the permanent collection of the CICA Museum in South Korea following her participation in the “Form 2020” exhibition.

Alizadeh has received several awards and honors, including selection for the 5th London Art Biennale 2021, and accolades from the London International Creative Competition and the Holy Art Gallery in London and Athens. Her work has also been featured in various media outlets and publications, including Juliet Art Magazine and New Visionary Magazine. Her artistic journey continues to push boundaries, inviting viewers to see beyond the surface and explore the deeper narratives within her work.

WORKS ON VIEW

Untitled #3

My artistic practice focuses on the symbolic potential of shadows as unreal counterparts of reality. Using restrained palettes and fragmented forms, I examine the relationship between humans, animals, and space. The work navigates between figuration and abstraction, creating visual narratives that remain open to interpretation and completion by the viewer.

Suppression

Suppression is born from the echoes of silenced voices and the weight of power imposed over humanity. Inspired by the brutal crackdowns in Iran, where people have been killed in the streets for demanding dignity and freedom, this work reflects a reality in which authority eclipses human rights. It captures the tension between presence and erasure—where bodies exist, yet voices are denied; where shadows become witnesses to violence that the world struggles to fully see. In this piece, power is not abstract—it is heavy, suffocating, and absolute, pressing down until even existence itself feels like resistance.

Untitled #1

My work explores shadows as metaphors for the dualities of existence—presence and absence, material and metaphysical. Through the interplay of human and animal forms, I reflect on vulnerability, imperfection, and the fragile balance of life. The compositions invite viewers into spaces of quiet reflection, where personal memory meets shared human experience.
