Residencies that support artists across disciplines

Project 14C provides affordable live-work and work-only studios with mentorship, professional development, and community. Located in Jersey City’s Powerhouse Arts District, the residency supports artists across visual arts, performance, music, writing, and more.

12-month & 3-month Live/Work residency

The 12-month Project 14C residency is an immersive live/work experience offering sustained mentorship, professional development, and deep integration into the Project 14C community and the Jersey City/NYC arts ecosystem.

Special Project 10-week residency

The 3-month Special Project Residency offers the same support and community—also as a possible live/work option—but within a shorter timeframe focused on the intensive development of one specific project.

Mentorship & Programming

A residency built around real support, including:

  • Studio visits with established artists and curators
  • Wednesday Brown bag Lunches
  • Thursday gallery tours across Jersey City and NYC
  • Workshops & internal programming: portfolio building, grants, critiques, writing, and professional practice
  • Support from on-site advisors and the ARTS 14C team

Lofts & Housing

  • 58 subsidized, furnished live/work studios (877–1504 sq ft)
  • High ceilings, 2 bathrooms, kitchenette, desks/storage, dining area
  • Fees starting around $2,046/month for individual residents; shared lofts average $1,200 per artist
  • Utilities, Wi-Fi, building access, and residency programming included
  • Laundry, community kitchens, gym, secure entry, freight elevator, pet-friendly

Project 14C connects residents with the wider city through:

  • JCAST, JCFridays, and Art Crawl collaborations
  • Public programs, tours, and community events
  • Volunteer service (36 hours per year)

Residency Application — FAQs

Who Can Apply ?

  • Artists of all disciplines (visual, performance, writing, music, film, design, etc.)
  • Must be 21+
  • No practices requiring open flames or heavy toxic materials
  • Studios can be shared by up to four artists (apply together)

What does the application require?

Your application should include:

  • Work samples (images, video, and/or links)

  • Two references

  • A short written statement outlining your goals and what you hope to contribute to the community

  • The names of any studio mates, if applying as a group

When do residencies begin?

Year-long residencies begin on a quarterly basis: March 1, June 1, September 1, and December 1.

When do special project residencies begin?

Special Project Residency dates vary depending on the project.
